Watch Al Pacino Read 'Mad Max'-Themed Letterman Top 10

As David Letterman prepared to read the Top 10 list on Thursday night, Al Pacino suddenly loomed up behind him, looking like a beatnik Dracula. He expressed interest in the Top 10 — he didn’t want to read the items: He wanted to read the numbers.

So he did. The list, a nod to the new Mad Max: Fury Road, was the Top 10 Reasons Why Max Is Mad. But before they started the list, Letterman scrawled something down on a card and handed it to Pacino, asking him to read it. Making out Letterman’s scrawl slowly, haltingly, he read: “Say hello to my little friend,” then looked puzzled, as though the Scarface reference had snuck up on him. What an actor; give him another Oscar.

Pacino read the numbers so slowly that at one point Letterman forgot and read a number out of habit before being jeered by the audience. The list was pretty good, too: Reasons why Max is mad included, “Because Fox Canceled The Mindy Project” and “Instead of Fury Road, GPS sent him to Fury Lane.”

The Late Show With David Letterman airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
