‘Daily Show’ Reunion Takes Trip Down Memory Lane on ‘The Late Show’

It was a Daily Show reunion on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Samantha Bee, Ed Helms, and Rob Corddry joined Colbert to reminisce about the good ole days, like when Colbert had a close call with the Ku Klux Klan. Colbert told the story about one of the first field pieces he did in which some KKK members weren’t happy with him making fun of the Klan. Colbert said that the producer told the Klan members to talk to their leader, who was across the field from where they were standing. As the guys went to talk to their leader, Colbert said the producer yelled at the Daily Show employees to “haul ass!” out of there.

The gang even traveled back in time to Colbert’s last day as a Daily Show correspondent. In the sketch, there were plenty of jokes revolving around things from 2005, such as when Bee said that there would never be a worse president than George W. Bush. Because John Oliver wasn’t on the Daily Show staff in 2005, he played Steve Carell, who couldn’t be there. And when Bee asked why he was talking with an “awful” British accent, Oliver replied, “Because unlike you feeble-minded chuckle monkeys, I’m off to Hollywood to become a serious actor.”

During the interview, they went even further back in time as Colbert showed a picture of Stewart when he first started as The Daily Show host. Colbert joked, “This is Jon Stewart and his enormous suits back in the day. They actually made you wear Craig Kilborn’s suits when you first came on the show.”

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
