The Daily Show’s Desi Lydic joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the comedy news program’s coverage of “Indecision 2024,” including the return of Jon Stewart. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Lydic talks through the journey that lead her to The Daily Show, which started with an obsession with late-’90s Saturday Night Live and roles in Not Another Teen Movie, Legally Blonde 2, and MTV’s Awkward. Despite those roles, it still took three auditions before landing the gig with The Daily Show.

Lydic arrived on the program at the same time that Trevor Noah became host and, importantly, during a pregnancy. She stayed on through 2023’s era of rotating celebrity guest hosts, and is now knee deep in “Indecision 2024” with Stewart. With all the political discourse going on, Lydic comments on the Mitch McConnell stepping down as Republican Senate leader, as well as what it means within the larger context of reproductive rights.

Moving from politics to art, Lydic also discusses the recent privilege of interviewing Jason Isbell. “I knew him, and I loved his music, and I knew he was on the show with Trevor a few times. I loved his interviews with Trevor, but having him on [more recently] was such an absolute delight,” she says. “He’s an incredible storyteller, he’s an intellectual, he has opinions that he wants to share, and he’s such an advocate — and then he just frickin’ knocked it out of the park with this beautiful performance. He is truly a dream guest.”
