The Daily Beast is looking to hire a reporter who will solely focus on Lauren Sánchez.

Yes, this is a real position.

The move comes after British restaurateur Keith McNally slammed Sánchez and her fiancé Jeff Bezos calling them both “absolutely revolting” in a post to social media. He called the couple “ugly” and “f—–g smug.”

Daily Beast’s newly appointed Chief Content Officer, Joanna Coles, wrote in a post to Instagram that she was “disappointed” by McNally’s comments.

“No one since Brooke Astor has dominated the American social landscape faster than Ms. Sanchez with her aviation skills, philanthropy and fabulosity,” Coles continued.

So, in Coles’ first move in her new role, she announced that she was looking for a senior Lauren Sánchez correspondent.

While it’s nothing new for newsrooms to assign a reporter to a certain topic, lately the topics have become more niche.

Last year, Gannett, the parent of USA Today, hired reporters to cover pop icons Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

Sánchez and Bezos went public with their relationship in 2019 after he divorced his wife, MacKenzie Scott, following 25 years of marriage.

Sánchez has had a long career in journalism in Los Angeles. She worked at KTLA 5 and Fox’s Good Day L.A. She’s also worked at Extra and was the original host of “So You Think You Can Dance,” in 2005.
