‘The Crown’ star Josh O’Connor ‘really sad’ over Kate Middleton conspiracies and cancer diagnosis

“The Crown” star Josh O’Connor gave his two cents on Kate Middleton’s cancer announcement in a new interview.

The Princess of Wales, 42, delivered the shocking news on Friday that she was diagnosed with the disease and was undergoing preventive chemotherapy.

The British actor — who played a young Prince (now King) Charles in Seasons 3 and 4 of the Netflix drama — got candid about his feelings regarding Middleton’s health.

At the Sydney premiere of his upcoming tennis flick, “Challengers,” the 33-year-old told the outlet 9honey Celebrity: “I really missed all the Kate stuff that everyone was talking online about.”

Since Middleton’s abdominal surgery in January, she has mostly stayed under the radar, with many conspiracies swirling over her whereabouts.

“And as soon as I heard about [Middleton’s illness] … I just always feel so sorry for them,” he went on.

O’Connor continued of the Firm: “I know it’s part of their job, but they’re born into it. And the way everyone was talking about Kate, I found really sad.”

“But I just hope she’s all right, and everyone’s thinking of her and sending her good wishes.”

The “Emma” star has previously noted that he isn’t a fan of the Windsor clan — despite playing one on the small screen. “I’m a republican. I’m not interested in the royal family” he told the Irish Times in 2020.

O’Connor portrayed the monarch in his young adult years, as well as during the early part of his marriage to Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) in 1981.

Last year, the “Only You” star looked back on his time on the royal series, calling that time in his life “f – – ked up.”

“I found it so impactful, people stopping me,” he recalled in an interview with British GQ about his spike in notoriety following his “The Crown” debut.

“You want to be in stuff that’s successful and seen, but I think sometimes we underestimate how powerful even a slight loss of anonymity can be. What I was doing in my career before ‘The Crown’ — I just wanted to carry on doing that,” O’Connor admitted.

“I love ‘The Crown,’ but that was a moment in time, an incredible moment, and I’m eternally grateful for it, but that was a character [Prince Charles] for which I really had no concept,” he added.

For his role as the former Prince of Wales, O’Connor scored a plethora of accolades for both of his seasons, earning an Emmy, a Golden Globe and two BAFTA nominations.

“It’s been two years of my life, cumulatively, making the show. And then the rest of my life has just been talking about it,” he told Variety in 2021. “It’s a strange dynamic; you spend more time talking about your work than you do making it sometimes. And that just shows the success of [‘The Crown’] — that people want to hear about it and want to understand the process and the stories.”

For the fifth and sixth seasons of the show, Charles had to be aged up and Dominic West took over the role from O’Connor. Elizabeth Debicki, for her part, portrayed an older version of Diana.
