Craig Gillespie Expected To Direct New Supergirl Film

Deadline revealed that the director behind Dumb Money, Cruella and I, Tonya, is in talks to direct Supergirl.

Craig Gillespie, who became a Primetime Emmy nominee in 2022 for his work on Pam & Tommy, is expected to direct the Warner Bros' DC Studios flick starring Molly Alcock.

Deadline reports that the plan is for cameras to start rolling on Supergirl at the tail-end of 2024 following production wrapping on James Gunn's Superman.

Supergirl, adapted from the 2022 comic book series from Tom King, follows Kara Zor-El's story and her darker origin before she finally made her way to Earth.

Ana Nogueira will script the adaptation, making it her first credit as a screenwriter on a feature film.

Alcock landed the role of Supergirl in January, receiving the James Gunn stamp of approval, who described the House of the Dragon star as "a fantastically talented young actor" and said he "was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests".

Gillespie has told many female-driven stories in the past, from the Margot Robbie-led I, Tonya, which saw Allison Janney win her first Oscar in the role of LaVona, to the live-action Disney film Cruella, where Emma Stone took on the role of the infamous villain.
