WRC driver Craig Breen was laid to rest on Tuesday after he was killed in a crash during testing for the Croatia Rally last week.

The 33-year-old driver's own Ford Sierra Cosworth rally car led the funeral procession that took place at the Sacred Heart Church in Ferrybank, Ireland. Breen's coffin, draped in the Irish tri-color flag, was carried by six pallbearers that included co-driver James Fulton, who was uninjured in the April 13 incident, along with longtime co-driver Paul Nagle.

“This is an unbelievably sad day," Parish priest Fr Kieran O’Shea told mourners at Breen's mass. "Craig’s all too short life has ended. We are bidding farewell to someone who brought sunshine and joy to so many people in his short journey through life. We are so grateful that our tears are mingled with gratitude. Today we gather for somebody who has gone way too young while he lived his dream."

Thousands of mourners gathered at the church to pay their respects, according to RallyFish on Facebook. Breen raced in the WRC for 14 years behind the wheel of Fords, Citroëns, and Hyundais. He also regularly competed in historic events, having last driven the Sierra Cosworth pictured above alongside co-driver Nagle in late March.

“The best tribute to Craig is to go out and live our lives," O'Shea told the crowd. "He’s finished his race.”
