Each summer, The Blue Note seizes chances to block off a portion of Ninth Street and throw Columbia a few block parties, mounting live music in front of — rather than inside — the venue.

This year, the party will extend into early fall, when Colter Wall will play an Oct. 9 date on Ninth Street, the venue announced Monday. Tickets go on sale Friday morning.

The Canadian artist, not yet 30, has become a fixture during a true sunburst moment for a strain of country music that favors songwriting and simplicity over pop sheen. Wall "specializes in singing songs designed to stir up the ghosts of times long past," AllMusic's Mark Deming wrote in a bio for that site.

Wall is four records into his career, most recently releasing the 10-track set "Little Songs" last summer.

"Wall is sticking to his fusion of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings, murmuring in a baritone over shuffles, two-steps, blues, and folk songs," Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote of the album, also for AllMusic.

Hosted by sibling venues The Blue Note and Rose Music Hall, the string of shows once called Summerfest is now labeled Central Bank Downtown Live! and, at least this year, skews toward various sides of the Americana coin.

More: From Needtobreathe to The Steel Woods, these acts will play outdoor shows in Columbia

Tickets for the Wall date are $49.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Visit https://thebluenote.com/ for more information.
