The current storyline of Conan the Barbarian has found Cimmeria’s favorite son sent across time and space. This has brought him into contact with other Robert E. Howard creations, from the prehistoric period before the Hyborian Age of Conan. However, the latest issue reunites him with an old ally, albeit one who has not yet met him.

Conan the Barbarian #11 by Jim Zub and Robert De La Torre finds the Cimmerian consulting a being called “the Wise One.” He recognizes the elephant-headed man as Yag-Kosha, whom he met in his youth as a thief. The reunion is odd, however, as the Wise One has not yet met the barbarian from his perspective. However, because his people perceive time differently than humans, Yag-Kosha still “remembers” Conan and knows of their connection in the future.

Conan the Barbarian Ally Yag-Kosha Explained

Yag-Kosha was introduced in the short story The Tower of the Elephant. Once an inhabitant of the planet Yag, Yag-Kosha’s people have wings in their natural form and are capable of flying between worlds. Yag-Kosha was among a group that was exiled from Yag and came to Earth. They became trapped there, as some quantity in the atmosphere destroyed their wings.

Yag-Kosha was the last of his people and ancient long before he met Conan the Barbarian. He was content to serve as a sage, teaching his magics to those who walked a pure path. Unfortunately, he was captured and bound by the evil priest Yara, and forced to teach him evil spells. He languished in Yara’s tower until a chance encounter with Conan. The barbarian helped him get his revenge on Yar and granted Yag-Kosha a clean death.
