Huge crowd comes out to help wish former cop a beautiful final Christmas
Frank Kleiman is a 30-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department and is fighting a losing battle with cancer. Kleiman has terminal lung cancer, and his family believes this will be his last Christmas.
“He’s had lung cancer three times, and really, it’s terminal cancer, so he goes in remission a couple of months and then it grows back,” Kimberly Kleiman-Lee, Frank’s daughter, told Fox6.
This week he was met with a Christmas surprise as a crowd of well-wishers, carolers, and friends massed outside his Waukesha, Wis., home. They came bearing candles, songs, and a special present for Kleiman and his family: a $3,000 check.
The money is a gift from the This Time Tomorrow Foundation, a charitable organization that helps families struggling with cancer. “We sure appreciate this,” Kleiman said.
Kleiman, who is a huge fan of Christmas, answered the door bundled up for the cold but wearing a red Santa hat.
“Do a good thing for our community and lift someone’s spirits,” said Abby Varick, one of the well-wishers in attendance. “It’s really heartwarming to see it at this time of the year,” Paul Gouge, another attendee, said.
“He’s got a crazy sense of humor. He knows that’s the thing that is going to keep him strong,” Kleiman-Lee said.
Kleiman is the father of four children and grandfather to 10. The entire family will be celebrating Christmas together this year.
