Comey on Trump's attacks: 'I'm like a breakup he can't get over'

Former FBI Director James Comey visited The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and in discussing Donald Trump‘s Twitter attacks against him, the lawman said the president needs to get over it.

Colbert brought up the topic by saying, “The president has said some kind of fun things about you. … He has called you ‘Slippery Jim’ … and ‘slimeball.'”

“I’ve been gone for a year,” Comey responded. “I’m like a breakup he can’t get over.” That comment drew lots of laughs from the audience. He went on to say, “I’m out there living my best life. He wakes up in the morning and tweets at me.”

Comey has spent the past year writing a book about his career, A Higher Loyalty, whereas Trump has spent his time writing tweets. In fact, just Sunday the president called for Comey to be jailed.

As far as that is concerned Comey said, “It’s not OK for the President of the United States to say a private citizen should be in jail. It’s not normal. It’s not acceptable. It’s not OK.”

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 on CBS.
