Clearwater Lutheran Church to hold free concert, dinner event

Apr. 17—SHEVLIN — The Clearwater County Historical Society and Clearwater Lutheran Church will host a meal and concert event on Saturday, April 27, at Clearwater Lutheran Church, 186 Second St. W., in Shevlin.

Participants will enjoy an evening of good food, music and stories, a release said.

The event will include a dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a concert by Renee Vaughan at 7 p.m.

Vaughan will take the stage offering "Folk Music and the Nordic Newcomers: First generation Scandinavian immigrant musicians to Clearwater County and greater Minnesota."

"During the mid to late 1800s, Minnesota became the chosen homeland for thousands of Scandinavian immigrants, including some of the most skilled musicians from their villages," the release said. "Back in the old country, these musicians' legacies live on and their favorite tunes continue to be played."

Vaughan's presentation will highlight the lives of these immigrants, including a few who immigrated to Minerva in Clearwater County and Solway in the late 1800s.

This is the third annual dinner and concert program offered by the Clearwater County Historical Society and the Clearwater Lutheran church.

A free-will donation will be accepted for both events. Proceeds from the evening will support church and historical society activities.
