Cin-Emma Extra: The dark side of TikTok, Anya Taylor-Joy appreciation

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Cin-Emma Extra is back, which means KOIN 6 resident movie buff Emma Jerome has her recommendations for what’s new and hot in movies and streaming.

We start by exploring the dark underbelly of TikTok in Dancing for the Devil.

This docuseries looks at the story of a young dancer who joined a management company, 7m, that turned out to also be a church and – reportedly – a cult, and the devastation left in its wake. We hear from families of people still trapped in this lifestyle along with people who have since left.

You can stream the three episode series on May 29 on Netflix.

Next up is the movie event of the month, Furiosa.

Snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, young Furiosa falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. As tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa soon finds herself in a nonstop battle to make her way home.

Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, this movie serves as a prequel and spinoff of Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa.

Continuing on the train of Anya Taylor-Joy appreciation, we have The Menu. This film follows a foodie and his date traveling to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the chef has prepared a lavish menu but reveals shocking surprises throughout the meal.

Now for the unequivocal most underrated movie of last year’s awards season and a movie that also features Taylor-Joy, Amsterdam.

The story is based on the Business Plot, a 1933 political conspiracy in the United States. It follows three friends—a doctor, a nurse and a lawyer—who reunite and seek to uncover the act following the mysterious murder of a retired U.S. general.

The film stars Margot Robbie, John David Washington and Christian Bale, supported by Anya Taylor-Joy, Rami Malek, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Chris Rock, Robert DeNiro, Zoë Saldaña and more.
