Voluntarily trapping yourself in a bus with dozens of fourth graders sounds chaotic — to say the least. (Did we mention teachers are saints? Because teachers are saints!) Christina Ricci did just that when she signed up to chaperone her son Freddie’s field trip. The 9-year-old, who Ricci shares with ex James Heerdegen, and his friends were a rowdy bunch, causing an unintended side effect for Ricci.

The Yellowjackets star shared a selfie from the field trip, where she wears a cheetah-print shirt, black cardigan, and sunglasses. Freddie is behind her, wearing a maroon hoodie and drawstring backpack, and turned around in his seat to talk to his friends. Ricci has a somber expression on her face, which might have to do with the pain her ears were experiencing.

“I chaperoned a 4th grade field trip today,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m permanently deaf in one ear from the bus ride. ♥️”

In Slide 2, Ricci shared a short video clip from the bus ride. The kids behind her were all turned toward the window to shout at kids in the other bus parked next to them. If they were this loud and wild on the bus imagine what they were like on the actual field trip?! (If my son’s first-grade field trip was any indication, I know just how hectic the day must have been for Ricci.)

Mark Hampton, who shares 2-year-old daughter Cleo with the Wednesday star, commented on his wife’s post, “😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.” Not helpful, sir!

“Stars — they’re just like us — regretting chaperoning field trips 😂😂😆,” someone else commented. Another person joked, “Your bravery knows no bounds!!! 😂😂”

“If only they knew they were in the presence of an icon😍” another wrote. Although if they did, something tells us the screaming might be even louder.

Ricci is used to handling things with Freddie, though. The Addams Family alum opened up about how much childrearing fell on her when she first had Freddie. “There are certain things like my son was never sleep trained because I had to go back to work when he was 2 months old,” she revealed on the Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty podcast last month. She shared that her ex-husband “wouldn’t help me at all with anything” and that she let Freddie sleep in the same bed as her “just to get enough sleep to be able to work the next day.”

This was very, very different from her experience with daughter Cleo. “I went and shot Wednesday in Romania when she was 2 months old, and Mark did every single night all night long,” Ricci said. “Like I just slept and worked the next day, and it made such a huge difference. It was so much easier this time around. You know, you have to have a good supportive partner.”

Now it seems like Freddie is taking after his stepdad. Ricci told DuJour last spring, “When [Freddie] was younger, I gave him full attention. He got to have that special babyhood and childhood, and now he’s able to help with his sister. There’s not a lot of jealousy. He loves her.” Absolute prince behavior (even if he is a little too loud sometimes).
