Chris Evans is 'not done yet' playing Captain America, teases 'Avengers' director
Have hope, Avengers fans.
Joe Russo, co-director of the previous two Captain America movies and Avengers: Infinity War, tells the Associated Press in a new interview that Chris Evans might have unfinished business in the Marvel universe.
“I think it was more emotional for him than us only because, you know, he’s not done yet, so…,” Russo told the Associated Press on Thursday. “And I won’t explain what that means, but the audience will soon understand what I’m talking about.”
Wait, what?
Evans memorably said goodbye to the blockbuster franchise — at least that’s what it sounded like — last month in a tweet.
Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

The message generated so much reaction that Evans addressed it within a couple of weeks at Chicago’s ACE Comic Con, although he still didn’t give us a straight answer about whether he’s leaving.
“That last day of filming really was a very emotional day,” Evans said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “It was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies — this unbelievable tapestry — and you feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel, and I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect, but I am neither confirming nor denying anything.”
Evans’s maybe (or maybe not) final movie behind the Captain America shield arrives in theaters May 3, 2019.
