Cher says she doesn’t date men her age because 'they’re all dead'

Cher doesn’t see men her age as viable romantic partners — because she doesn’t see them at all.

During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the Moonstruck star explained why she tends to seek romantic partners who are younger than her. “The reason I got with young men is because men my age or older — well, now they’re all dead,” she said. “Before, [men my age] just never, they were always terrified to approach me, and younger men were the only ones that —”

“They’re bold,” Jennifer Hudson interrupted.

“Yeah, raised by women like me,” Cher agreed.

The 77-year-old singer had previously shot down critics of her relationship with 38-year-old Def Jam executive Alexander “AE” Edwards. “Haven’t You Got Anything Else 2 Do,” Cher tweeted in 2022 after users questioned her romance. “Let Me Explain…I DONT GIVE A [flying] FK WHAT ANYONE THINKS.”

The discussion about dating younger men came after Hudson turned back time to discuss the report that Cher once turned down Elvis Presley. “It was because I just was, I was nervous, and I knew the people around him,” she said, seemingly confirming the story. “And it wasn’t that they were bad people, it’s just that I was kind of nervous of his reputation. I’m really shy when I’m not working, and kind of shy around men.”

Cher also said she was nervous to star in a film with Meryl Streep. “I went to make a movie with her, and I was packing my bag, and then I started unpacking it, and my sister kept packing it. I went ‘I cannot go make a movie with Meryl Streep, okay?’” she recalled saying before shooting 1983’s Silkwood. “And then I get to Texas, and a woman comes at me with white, white hair and a white dress, she puts her arms around me, and she says ‘I’m so glad you’re here.’ It was her. And it was like, from then on, we were like joined at the hip. We’ve been friends all this time.”
