Charlamagne tha God on Kanye West's mental health issues: 'He's full of s***'

On The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, Charlamagne tha God called out Kanye West for blaming his erratic behavior on mental health issues. Charlamagne, whose book Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me addresses his mental health struggles, canceled an interview with Kanye that was supposed to be about mental health after the rapper’s bizarre visit to the White House in October. While there, Kanye told President Trump that he’d been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, blaming his behavior on sleep deprivation instead. But Charlamagne wasn’t buying Kanye’s on-again, off-again struggles with mental health.

“I mean this in the most brotherly, ya know, black man to black man way possible,” Charlamagne said. “Kanye West is full of s***, right?” He later added, “You sat in the White House with Donald Trump and you said you didn’t have bipolar. You were misdiagnosed. It was sleep deprivation. You were off your medication. You create better without it. But when you get into a rap feud with Drake, the only way you can combat Drake in any way, shape or form is to weaponize mental health.”

Kanye recently posted a tweet aimed at Drake accusing him of bullying, but Charlamagne doesn’t think the feud has anything to do with mental health. He thinks it’s all about Drake affecting Kanye’s sneaker sales.

“In the biggest song of the year, which is ‘Sicko Mode’ with Drake and Travis Scott,” Charlamagne said, “Drake says, ‘Checks over stripes.’ And then in another record with French Montana called ‘No Stylist,’ he said, ‘Don’t wear no 350s around me,’ which are one of Kanye West’s sneakers. Kanye West’s last couple sneakers haven’t really sold extremely well.”

Based on a derogatory tweet about “Sicko Mode” that Kanye posted the same day as the one aimed at Drake, Charlamagne might be right, and he had a message for Kanye.

“The only way you can think to combat Drake is to weaponize mental health issues?” Charlamagne asked. “That’s whack, my brother. That’s lame.”
