Celebrity Chef and philanthropist Guy Fieri made an appearance in Yonkers Sunday in support of his and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar’s Santo Spirits brand of tequila.

The Cinco de Mayo appearance was at Stew Leonard's (1 Stew Leonard Drive) from noon to 1 p.m. for a "meet and greet". Fieri took photos with fans and signed bottles of Santo Tequila, a liquor that arose from a decades-old friendship between himself and Hagar.

Members of the Yonkers fire and police departments, Mayor Mike Spano, and about two-hundred fans turned out for the event.

According to Santo Spirits press release, their tequila products are additive free and carefully crafted using time-honored traditional methods that allow the agave to shine through. The tequila is produced at El Viejito Distillery in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico (the distillery dates to 1937) and is helmed by a third-generation distiller. Available in the portfolio is a Blanco, Reposado, Añejo and a 110-proof Blanco Tequila, along with Mezquila, what the press release calls "the world’s first tequila and mezcal blend."

Among those who showed up to meet Fieri was Christina Ferruggia of Tuckahoe, who along with buying a bottle of Fieri's tequilla, which he signed for her, also brought a bath mat, which Fieri autographed while remarking that he had never autographed a bath mat before. After meeting the celebrity chef, Ferruggia said, 'this is better than my wedding day."

The last time Fieri was in Westchester was last year when he highlighted Port Chester's Rinconcito Salvadoreño on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." The episode, which aired Sept. 8, highlighted the family-owned eatery's pupusas (aka griddle cakes).

The restaurant, which has been in Westchester for more than 25 years, is located at 20 Broad St. and was recently part of our sibling-owned restaurant story.
