Cat Who 'Upstaged' Opera Singer Goes Viral on TikTok

Somebody get him his Grammy.

A crooning kitty has gone viral on TikTok for upstaging his operatic mom.

The clip—which appears to have been an attempt at a self-tape and was taken seven years ago—was uploaded to Instagram by user @maura.music, where it racked up a few hundred likes and comments. Maura Navarrete also uploaded it to TikTok, and in just three days it has been viewed over 4 million times and earned over a million likes.

Navarrete, who is a former middle school choir teacher according to her GoFundMe page, where the singer is asking for help paying off medical debt from a previous heart surgery, was attempting to record a serious rendition of the song, but six seconds into the video, her fluffy gray cat—whom she called Max in another video, confirming to Newsweek that his full name is Maximino—came bounding into the frame. Navarrete looked exasperated from the moment he climbed onto the desk, lightly pushing him out of the way as she prepared to continue with her song. But then, Max opened his mouth at the exact same time and began to perform himself.

Navarrete cracked up in the background as Max carried the show on his tiny little shoulders for nearly 30 seconds straight. The burgeoning star kept his eyes on the screen as if reading the score until his solo was over, at which point he immediately turned to exit stage right.

TikTok ate Max's antics up, and a scroll through the comments is well worth your time.

"How dare you try to take his solo! 😂," one commenter criticized the singer.

"He quickly put me in my place🥵," Navarrete replied.

"straight upstaged 😂," another user told her.

"Why is he in key thoooo 😂," someone else questioned.

"'He said WE are making it to Juilliard," one person joked, while another pointed out, "He deserves a Grammy."

Another user joked, "Carlotta vs Christine," referencing The Phantom of the Opera.

"I love how when he's done he's like 'ok, now exit stage left. end scene. nailed it,'" another comment said.

"He memorized his cues," Navarrete agreed.

The next day, Navarrete uploaded a new video of Max to TikTok, announcing his newfound fame to the feline and treating viewers to a duet between the two.

A day after that video, she posted another follow-up performing "Ave Maria" in "the key of cat."

The most recent installment of the saga was shared on August 12, with Navarrete and Max running through a vocal warmup together. We'll have to sit tight to see if we're gifted a part 5.
