Cassie Breaks Silence On Diddy Physically Assaulting Her In 2016 Video
Cassie has spoken. On Thursday (May 23), the singer posted a lengthy statement regarding the 2016 video showing Diddy assaulting her. The post’s caption was a simple prayer hands emoji paired with a white heart emoji with a more profound message found inside the post’s picture.
Cassie proceeded to thank everyone for their continued support of her but insisted that her lawsuit and the new footage were the beginning and that the real issue at hand was conquering domestic violence.
“Thank you for all the love and support from my family, friends, strangers, and those I have yet to meet,” she typed. “The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now, but this is only the beginning… Domestic violence is THE issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past.”
Later in the post, Cassie demanded that people “open your heart to believing victims the first time.” The model added that people shouldn’t have to go through these dark times alone and should have loved ones in their corner to help get them through.
CNN released the disturbing 2016 surveillance footage on Friday (May 12). Cassandra Fine is seen in the video running for her life as she approaches the elevator. According to her November 2023 lawsuit, Cassie stated that she attempted to escape Diddy when he was sleeping.
The footage then shows an allegedly belligerent Sean Combs running out of their hotel room in a towel. He catches up to Cassie and throws her down to the ground by her neck. Combs follows up by stomping her on the ground as she lies there, covering herself from more abuse. Sean Combs is later caught on tape throwing vases and glasses at someone who appears to be the singer off-screen.
Following the video’s release, Sean Combs issued an apology. The businessman claimed to be disgusted by his “inexcusable” behavior and said he sought therapy for it. The apology appeared hollow to some fans, as Sean Combs and his team had spent the last couple of months declaring that he was innocent of any allegations against him.
In fact, he released his first statement a month after Cassie’s November bombshell lawsuit, typing in all caps, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I HAVE SAT SILENTLY AND WATCHED PEOPLE TRY TO ASSASSINATE MY CHARACTER [AND] DESTROY MY REPUTATION AND MY LEGACY. SICKENING ACCUSATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AGAINST ME BY INDIVIDUALS LOOKING FOR A QUICK PAYDAY.
“LET ME BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR,” the adamant statement continued. “I DID NOT DO ANY OF THE AWFUL THINGS BEING ALLEGED. I WILL FIGHT FOR MY NAME, MY FAMILY AND FOR THE TRUTH. SEAN DIDDY COMBS.”
