Car crashes into D'Ann's Restaurant in Abington causing extensive damage

ABINGTON — One person was taken to the hospital Monday, Nov. 22 after they crashed into D'Ann's restaurant in Abington at 370 Centre Avenue.

The Abington Fire Department said in a social media post that the driver had non-life-threatening injuries following the crash into the front of the restaurant at 10:20 a.m. A tow truck removed the car by 11:15 a.m. Monday.

Pictures posted by the Abington Fire Department show extensive damage where the car hit the building as the front end nearly hit the bar, and came inches away from an emergency water supply.

The inside of the restaurant suffered significant damage as the whole side of the building appeared caved in, with insulation and drywall strewn about, as well as large wooden beams leaning far into the bar.

The restaurant wasn't open yet and no one was in the area of the building that was damaged.

A building inspector was called to the scene after the crash.

D'Ann's owner told The Patriot Ledger's reporting partner, WCVB, that he hopes the restaurant could make temporary repairs and open for business by late Monday or early Tuesday, to be available during the busy Thanksgiving week.

The restaurant was crashed into at least once before, in 2016, after a patron hit the gas instead of the brake while trying to leave the parking lot.
