Céline Dion’s return to the public eye at the Grammys in February was only a small part of her return. The 55-year-old singer’s comeback is even bigger as she shows off just how fabulous she is on the May 2024 cover of Vogue France — she looks strong and empowered in this season of life.

It’s no secret that Dion has been battling Stiff Person Syndrome and it’s ground her successful music career to a halt. Her days are focused on “athletic, physical, and vocal therapy” five times a week. It’s an unexpected twist of events for the talented vocalist who is often considered one of the greatest singers to hit the music industry — and it’s taken its mental toll on her. “I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice… I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself,” she revealed. “At the beginning, I would ask myself: why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault?”

PARIS, FRANCE – JULY 03: Celine Dion attends the Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2019 2020 show as part of Paris Fashion Week on July 03, 2019 in Paris, France.

Dion realized that she had “two choices” when her life didn’t go in the direction she expected. “Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror, and sing to myself,” she admitted. “I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be.” That means living out her dreams at 55 — they may not be the ones she expected, but she’s relishing the opportunity to share her struggles and triumphs as a woman in her 50s.

Describing herself as “very lucky,” Dion shared that even though she had “better health and beauty at 30,” beauty magazines weren’t asking her to be on the cover of their publications back then. “I am very proud that at 55, I am being asked to reveal my beauty. But what is beauty? Beauty is you, it’s me, it’s what’s on the inside, it’s our dreams, it’s today,” she said. “Beauty is what surrounds us, it is there. There are people that see it, and there are people that observe it.”

Women in their 50s often say they feel invisible to society and that the world has forgotten about them. Well, Dion is sharing that she finally feels seen at the age of 55. She wasn’t celebrated in her 30s, but her time is now, even if her health is in a much different situation than 20 years ago. Dion is thriving! “Today, I am a woman, who feels strong and positive about the future,” Dion gushed. “One day at a time.”
