Earlier today, fans of Bridgerton got quite a gift as the first official trailer of the show’s third season was released. In the trailer, the season’s leads, Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington and Luke Hewton as Colin Bridgerton, develop quite a spark as the longtime friends partner up to find Penelope a suitor.

Talking to Julia Quinn, the author of the Bridgerton book series, she teases that their love story will be unlike anything we’ve seen before on the show. “What’s different this season is that we have two characters that we already know very well,” she says. “So it just gives it a different vibe than seasons one and two.”

“It’s a big change to be familiar,” she adds. Quinn adds that this new storyline will bring out new emotions for viewers, saying “They’ll be surprised by the way it makes them feel.” “I’m looking forward to seeing how people react to that sort of different setup,” she says.

Before chatting with us, Quinn binged the whole season, which comes out on May 16. “I can tell you it’s amazing,” she teases. “I think people are gonna love it.”

Recently, Quinn teamed up with International Delight who released new limited-edition products in partnership with Bridgerton: Berries & Crème and English Toffee Creamers, and Berries & Crème Iced Coffee. Following the launch, International Delight and Quinn gave NYC singles the opportunity to meet their match at its “Coffee & Courting” dating event in February.

Thinking about how Colin would have his coffee, Quinn, who also partners with EveryLibrary in a fight against book bans, quickly went into writer mode.

“I think Colin likes coffee because he did a lot of travel and he probably would have thought that was like really cool to drink coffee,” the author says. “I think Colin would have thought he was supposed to take his coffee black and then secretly wanted cream and sugar in it, to be honest with you.”

“I think he would have like pretend like, ‘Oh yeah, I have my coffee black’ then been like, ‘This sucks give me all the cream and sugar,'” she says.

Bridgerton season 3 premieres on May 16. We can’t wait!
