A lot of people have a renewed focus on their health come January — too much eggnog and pumpkin pie will do that — but Bret Michaels is starting now.

The Poison frontman has revealed that he spent the last three weeks in and out of emergency rooms, where he endured treatment for kidney problems and tests on his heart.

Michaels has long been public about his struggle with diabetes, a disease he was diagnosed with as a child. He’s had other issues, too. In 2010, he suffered a brain hemorrhage, and, as he was being treated for that, doctors discovered a hole in his heart, which they repaired during surgery.

The rocker promised a renewed focus on taking care of himself, vowing that there would be “no excuses,” even as he admitted that he’s been feeling “a little down lately physically & spiritually.” He explained that he had been inspired while helping worthy families during the holidays.

Fans were there for him.

“The awareness you’ve raised over the years has been so instrumental in helping Type 1 Diabetes patients (like my Aunt) know they can lead productive phenomenal lives. Thank you for your continued work and your honest posts on the struggles and triumphs!!” one person gushed.

Sorry you’re feeling a lil down. Im here if you need to talk,” offered another.

“Rock on Brett!;)” cheered a third.

Not long after that initial post, Michaels documented a workout.

He promised there was “more to come.”
