"I was a kid that went to the clubs all the time," Flay tells PEOPLE

Bobby Flay's got moves!

The Food Network star put his dance skills on display for Pepsi's latest commercial. The spot, which is part of Pepsi's “Grills Night Out” campaign, shows Flay fastening his apron before running his hands through his hair and shaking his hips. He shows off a few more moves after firing up the grill.

"I have to tell you, it's one of my favorite things to do. I love to dance more than anything," Flay, 59, tells PEOPLE.

The Beat Bobby Flay star grew up in New York City where as a child "we used to dance on the street corner," he says. "I was a kid that went to the clubs all the time."

Pepsi is encouraging families to serve their drinks during summer entertaining — and have fun with it, like Flay does in the commercial. (Two other ads in the campaign show cooks rocking out behind the grill.)

"When Pepsi said to me, 'We want you to dance in this commercial.' I was like, 'Okay.' I think they were thinking that I was going to be like, 'No, I can't do that.' But I was thrilled," he tells PEOPLE.

The celebrity chef is a big entertainer. "I always have a bunch of people in my house in the summer," says Flay, who often hosts at his Los Angeles home and Hamptons, N.Y. summer getaway. "Not only am I the innkeeper, but I'm also the caterer here. So when people come to my house, they expect to be fed three meals a day. It's no problem, I love doing it."

To lessen the stress, Flay opts to serve everything family-style.

"Everybody wants to know what's a good thing to feed a crowd that everyone is going to enjoy. I tell people, do a taco bar," he says. "I do everything family-style, whether it's a burger bar or a taco bar."

"I'll cook some shrimp, I'll cook some kind of white fish, usually in the same marinade or spice rub," he adds. "And then I'll make salsas and relishes, and I'll make some tortillas. I'll make some guacamole, something crunchy — like slaw — and I just let people make their own."

That goes for drinks too (including Pepsi's new lime and peach flavors). Flay likes to set out "buckets, like those anodized metal buckets," he says, "tons of ice, and then put your beverages in there. It works really well."
