Blue Ivy's Silk Press/Blowout Has Everyone Talking

Blue Ivy Carter stepped out with her parents at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on April 1 looking all grown up and leaving fans to wonder where the time has gone. The 12-year-old stunned in her own Cowboy Carter-inspired look – a denim tube top and jeans. But it was her hair that had social media buzzing.
If you were watching Blue on tour with mom last summer, you already know that she’s inherited her ability to rock just about any look with grace and style. It doesn’t hurt that she’s the granddaughter of a stylist and salon owner and the daughter of an international superstar who just so happens to have a hot new line of hair care products. But this week, Blue Ivy’s silk press had everyone talking – and looking for their flat irons.
“LOOK AT BLUE N THAT BLOWOUT 😍😍”, “Wow look at Blue & her hair ❤️” and “Your hair is pretty like you,🤎” were just a few of the supportive comments left on her fan page.
This isn’t the first time Blue has rocked the look. Here she is in 2020, ringing in the new year with her mom and Megan Thee Stallion.
And here she stuns on stage in with mom in Amsterdam during the Renaissance Tour in 2023.
A Heat-Based Alternative to Achieving Straight Hair
The silk press is a styling method which allows people to straighten curly/coily hair without using chemical relaxers. With the help of a blow dryer and a flat iron, you can achieve the look of silky straight locks.
Although the style is by no means new, naturalistas love the versatility of being able to go from curly to straight as they please. A good silk press can usually last up to two weeks – weather permitting, of course. That’s because heat, humidity and moisture are like kryptonite to a fresh silk press.
Even our very own Vice President Kamala Harris swears by the style. In 2023, she told Keke Palmer on her “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast that she uses a boar bristle round brush, rather than a curling iron to get her hair bouncing and behaving without a lot of heat.
“You and Queen Latifah are going neck-and-neck with the silk presses … It’s a round brush, girls. We’ve got to get into that,” Palmer responded.
