Here’s the official synopsis from MGM: “When tech billionaire Slater King (Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.”

The trailer, scored by LCD Soundsystem’s “Dance Yrself Clean,” has a fun, playful tone until it starts to get dark and twisted. The colors are bright, the people and locations are beautiful, and the perfection is obviously hiding something sinister. It seems to be a “people trapped in a rich guy’s private location as things turn weird and bad” movie in the vein of “The Menu,” or a horror version of “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”

In a 2022 profile in the Wall Street Journal, Kravitz said that the film came out of her frustration with the way women are treated in industries like tech and entertainment, where wealthy men will fly women out for debauched parties in remote locations. The film was originally called “Pussy Island” – “It represents this time where it would be acceptable for a group of men to call a place that, and the illusion that we’re out of that time now,” Kravitz said, adding that she refused to soften the provocative title.

But in the end, the title did change, and the film hits theaters on August 23.
