“Black-ish ”Costars Tracee Ellis Ross and Yara Shahidi Reunite for Old Navy Summer Campaign: 'Twinning' (Exclusive)

The two star in the brand's latest commercials — in their own styles!

Spring has sprung and now it's time for a summer wardrobe refresh!

Old Navy tapped Black-ish costars Tracee Ellis Ross and Yara Shahidi to help inspire your summer refresh — the two star in the clothing retailer's new campaign for the season. Wearing some of the colorful trends that you'll find in stores (and eventually in your closets), the two bring their effortless charm and style to the campaign for this mini-reunion, two years after Black-ish wrapped.

"I've been having a ball," Ross, 51, said of spending time with Shahidi again. "It's been a minute. When you've worked with someone for a long time, there's an ease to how you work, and a comfort. I should say thank you, Old Navy, for bringing this little duo back together."

"I think the best part is noticing how similar our instincts are in certain moments... or when other people notice our twinning mannerisms!" Shahidi, 24, added.

The pair, who starred in the show from 2014-2022, know a lot about each other — and that came from working together so closely for years.

Ross recalled a conversation from years ago where she gave a young Shahidi — who she calls one of the "smartest, most socially engaged" people — beauty advice that she still thinks is quite wise.

"I just had a flashback to an early conversation," Ross said. "I remember saying to Yara really early, 'Don’t let anyone ruin your eyebrows. You have the most beautiful eyebrows. Don’t let anyone talk you into doing some sculpted something.' Because they frame her gorgeous face so beautifully."

For her part, Shahidi points to Ross as someone she looks up to in the industry for her "energy" and ability to welcome others in.

"You have given yourself so many ways of figuring out how to be fully present in spaces, large and small," Shahidi said to Ross. "But I think that extends to a second thing, which is watching you as an actor, watching you as a producer and as a person. You prioritize making sure people have space to be themselves."

In Old Navy's new summer campaign, Ross and Shahidi find themselves in a breezy California setting fitting of Old Hollywood glamour — and that sets the tone for the new collection. Ross wears monochromatic linens while Shahidi rocks sportswear, each in their own style.

Throughout the two new ad spots — and campaign pieces rolling out across Old Navy's socials — new chief creative officer Zac Posen's whimsical vision is brought to life through these stars. And through the clothes, of course!
