PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Billie Holiday, also known as “Lady Day,” is known as one of the best American jazz singer-songwriters in history.

There’s even a night here in Portland filled with jazz performances to pay tribute to the icon on what would have been her 109th birthday.

A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit the non-profit Siren Nation, a group promoting and amplifying voices of women through the arts in Portland. Another portion will also benefit local community radio station KBOO.

Marcia Hocker, artist curator and emcee of the 17th annual Lady Sings the Blues event, stopped by AM Extra to tell what audiences can expect at the concert.

The show is happening Saturday, April 6 at 8 p.m at the Alberta Rose Theater. Tickets are available here.
