Billie Eilish and Finneas 'Have Never Ever Ever Loved Something More' than New Album “Hit Me Hard and Soft”

Billie Eilish and Finneas are over the moon about the release of their new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

The 10-track LP, the pop star's third studio album, was released on Friday, May 17, much to the brother-sister duo’s delight, as they couldn’t contain their excitement while posting about it on Instagram.

“dude ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ my third album is f---ing out now i don’t even know what to SAAYY…,” Eilish, 22, shared in a post, which included a silly clip of her and her brother/longtime collaborator discussing their goals for the album.

“@finneas and i put so much into this album and have never ever ever loved something more,” the “ocean eyes” singer added. “we hope you enjoy it so much and i’ll see you on the other side EEEEEEEEEEEEEK HMHAS OUT NOW EVERYWHERE LOVE YOU ALL TO DEAAAAATH!!!!😭😭😭.”

Finneas (born Finneas O'Connell), 26, seemed equally ecstatic about the project’s release, as he told fans on Instagram, “This album is my favorite thing I’ve ever been a part of making and there were so many times during the making of it that I thought we’d never finish it or had no idea what we were doing I lost count.”

Alongside a clip of him and his sister in the studio, the Grammy and Oscar-winning producer continued, “just goes to show- when you’re in it, you might just have to try to keep swimming- you can only really see the ocean once you’re on the shore.”

Finneas concluded his note by telling fans he’s “going offline,” as “what you all think of this album is your business, not mine.”

“I really do hope you like it,” he added, “-we make everything with you in mind and we owe it all to you- thanks for the sick job/life. We’re so lucky.”

Keeping up with her album release-day music video tradition, Eilish dropped the visual for her NSFW cut “Lunch,” which she debuted at Coachella in April. The stripped-down video, directed by the Happier Than Ever singer, finds her rocking various baggy outfits as she shows off a silver grill and sweetly sings, “I could eat that girl for lunch.”

Prior to that, Eilish opened up about her new album in her Rolling Stone cover story published in April, where she revealed that recording the project felt like revisiting the 2019 version of herself.

“I feel like this album is me,” she said. “It’s not a character. It feels like the When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? version of me. It feels like my youth and who I was as a kid.”

Finneas echoed his sister’s sentiments, explaining that the songs on Hit Me Hard and Soft had to come from a space where Eilish reconnected with her younger self. “In some ways, growing on [the album] meant revisiting a lot of things,” he said. “I feel like this album has some real ghosts in it, and I say that with love.”

“There’s ideas on this album that are five years old, and there’s a past to it, which I really like,” he continued. “When Billie talks about the era of When We All Fall Asleep, it was this theatricality and this darkness. What’s the thing that no one is as good at as Billie is? This album was an exploration of what we do best.”

2024 has already been a huge year for Eilish and Finneas. From January to March, the pair picked up their second Golden Globe and Oscar awards, plus two more Grammy wins — including song of the year — for their hit song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack. The new Academy Award marked history for the two, as it made Eilish the youngest-ever two-time Oscar winner, with Finneas being the second.

This summer, Eilish will embark on her Hit Me Hard and Soft arena tour, which kicks off in September in North America and will continue in Australia in February 2025. The final stretch of the tour will take the multi-platinum artist overseas to Europe and the U.K. before concluding in Ireland starting in late July 2025.
