Erykah Badu is once again having trouble with the BeyHive.

The swarm started on Wednesday when the neo-soul pioneer took issue with the vinyl cover of Beyoncé’s new album, “Act II: Cowboy Carter.” The cover shows a naked Bey with a strategically placed beauty pageant-style sash that says “act ii Beyincé.”

Badu was particularly riled up by the superstar’s hair, which was in braids with multi-colored beads. This is definitely a look Badu has frequently worn, which may have made her feel some type of way about Bey’s choice.

In response to the cover, the “On & On” singer posted the image on her Instagram Stories with the caption, “Hmmm.” And since social media commentators have their eye on anything remotely negative toward their queen, the BeyHive swarmed.

As the situation escalated—as it often does with the BeyHive—Badu turned to Beyoncé’s husband for help. Alongside a laughing emoji, she wrote on X, “To Jay Z . Say somethin Jay . You’re gone let this woman and these bees do this to me ??”

I’m sorry ma’am, if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that no one can control the BeyHive when they feel their queen is under attack. Plus, do you think Jay-Z runs Beyoncé? Because it’s pretty clear, that’s not how their relationship works.

As much as we love Ms. Badu’s iconic style, rocking braids doesn’t mean you own that look forever.

They’re an essential part of Black culture. The 32-time Grammy winner’s publicist, Yvette Schure, made this point with an Instagram video featuring a montage of Bey in braids throughout her career. As “Formation” played, the caption reads, “She slays. She slays. Now. Then. Always. act ii COWBOY CARTER 3.29 #criticswithoutcredentials”

This isn’t the first time the “Tyrone” singer has taken issue with Bey wearing a style reminiscent of her own. During the “Renaissance” tour, the Houston native wore a metallic hat that Badu felt was too similar to some of her previous looks, which set off a week of back and forth controversy.

Honestly, this all feels a little beneath Badu. Longtime fans of hers have since clapped back to claim that her comments were all in good fun. But many commentators, us included, thought the whole thing was unnecessary.

“Because joke or not, the comment and post was unnecessary. And this isn’t the first time Erykah has done something like this toward Beyoncé. It’s weird,” said the Instagram commentator.

And we kinda agree.
