It’s no secret that Hollywood’s action-filled, tentpole blockbusters make their splash on movie screens every summer.
But every now and then moviegoers get a taste of the summer blockbuster season a few months ahead of schedule. This year’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is promising to do just that when it opens in theaters this Friday.
Here is what to know about the new movie and where to watch it in Volusia-Flagler this weekend.

What is ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ about?
The Warner Bros. Pictures production, directed by Adam Wingard, continues the studio’s “Monsterverse” franchise, picking up after 2021’s “Godzilla vs Kong”. It stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens among others.
After their showdown in the previous movie, Godzilla and Kong will face “a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence ― and our own,” according to the film’s synopsis.
“The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”

Godzilla and King Kong have been part of the pop culture lexicon throughout the 20th century and into the 21st.
Apart from the upcoming film, there have been 12 King Kong movies and 37 flicks featuring Godzilla.

“Godzilla x Kong” will have 16 showings at CMX Daytona Luxury 12 Theaters this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
