Getting dumped sucks. Getting dumped on national television after competing with a dozen other women? That’s a whole different level of heartbreak. Luckily, Jenn Tran is getting another shot at love on The Bachelorette, but that didn’t make her break-up with Joey Graziadei any easier.

On The Bachelor Season 28, Jenn made it to Episode 7 but got sent home right before the hometown visits. It was a blow right to the heart, and although she’s getting a second chance with The Bachelorette, she said it took a little bit of time to bounce back from Joey’s rejection. She opened up about the process during a recent interview with Us Weekly, and her coping method was super relatable.

A heart heals with time and ice cream

Jen told the outlet that after The Bachelor, she had a solid group of friends supporting her. She said they were bringing her tons of ice cream, and honestly, what more could you want from your friends? If they can’t slash his tires, then an ice cream delivery is the next best thing.

“You can’t really put a time on processing a breakup,” Jenn explained. “I think [you take it] just little by little, and one day you just stop thinking about it. It just took a lot of my friends bringing me ice cream and a lot of that.”

When reflecting on her time on The Bachelor, Jenn admitted that she “definitely” was “falling in love” with Joey. She was adamant that her feelings were real, which means the heartbreak was also real when she got eliminated. Regardless, she made it clear that she wasn’t holding any hard feelings towards Joey.

“He was 100 percent himself the entire time,” Jenn shared. “He’s so genuine and he really just made me feel so safe the entire time I was there in terms of just being who I am. And he was just so open and receptive of everything, and he truly is an amazing guy.”

After the Bachelor Season 28 finale, Jenn was announced as the next Bachelorette, which means Joey is old news anyway. As the show’s first Asian lead, she said she was looking forward to leading her own love story. After the announcement, she said, “I am going to be the main character in my story.”

The Bachelorette will air on ABC later this year.
