The best off-screen BFF moments with 'The Avengers' cast

The Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it is ending with the release of Avengers: Endgame. No matter what happens to their onscreen counterparts, though, the Avengers cast are friends for life. In the seven years since they assembled for the very first Avengers movie, the core squad of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner have repeatedly demonstrated their affection for one another in public. And that sense of camaraderie has spread to other corners of the MCU. With Endgame approaching, Yahoo Entertainment took a PDA-filled look back at how our favorite heroes have become real-life BFFs. (Watch the video above.)

One big thing we learned? Even though Tony Stark has a prickly personality, Downey is clearly the most affectionate Avenger. The actor has made a point of smooching everyone from his Civil War nemesis, Evans, to Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle who play Tony’s main squeeze Petter Potts and best buddy Rhodey, respectively. Downey has also taught “class act” Ruffalo a thing or two about making friends. When he’s not smashing things as the Hulk, the socially-conscious star is clowning around with the super-strong Hemsworth and birthday buddy, Johansson.

Outside of the original Avengers crew, some of our favorite BFF pairings include galactic guardians Vin Diesel and Zoe Saldana, as well as Saldana and Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch. But the bravest of them all has to be Cobie Smulders, who plays Nick Fury’s sharp-shooting sidekick, Maria Hill. Smulders took it upon herself to make nice with the MCU’s semi-reformed bad guy, Loki, by fixing Tom Hiddleston’s tie at a red carpet event. Hey, Nick! How about her as the next leader of the Avengers?

Avengers: Endgame smashes into theaters on April 26.
