Margot Robbie is being eyed to star in Avengelyne, a new film based on Rob Liefeld and Cathy Christian’s comic book character.

Per Deadline, Robbie is in talks to star in Avengelyne, which is being directed by Olivia Wilde. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is “negotiating to close a seven-figure film rights deal” for the movie, which is being written by Tony McNamara.

Deadline’s article also notes that Robbie’s casting is “subject to script.” McNamara previously worked on the screenplays for 2018’s The Favourite, 2021’s Cruella, and, most recently, 2023’s Poor Things.

Who else is involved with Avengelyne?

Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara’s LuckyChap Entertainment will produce the movie alongside Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon.

“Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters,” Deadline’s article reads. “She was the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of Hell, to confront the Devil himself. She is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood, which, once extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or a miracle, when it is empowered by quoting verses from the Bible. Avengelyne uses her powers to fight demons on Earth and is being groomed to be humankind’s last hope in a coming Armageddon.”

Avengelyne first appeared in 1995’s Avengelyne: Deadly Sins #1, which was published by Maximum Press. The character has also been in stories published by Awesome Entertainment, Avatar Press, Arcana Studio, and Image Comics.

Wilde has so far directed two feature films up until this point: 2019’s Booksmart and 2022’s Don’t Worry Darling. A release date for Avengelyne has not yet been set.
