A New ASHISH Exhibition Is Coming to London's William Morris Gallery

The first-ever retrospective of major fashion designer, Ashish Gupta, is landing in London's William Morris Gallery -- set to explore his bold, beautiful works and unique vision.

Ashish: Fall in Love and Be More Tender is set to showcase over 60 of the designer's most subversive and striking designs, spanning 20 years of the London-based label. Beginning with an overview of Ashish's key themes and influences, the exhibition will examine his unique use of sequins and color, alongside introducing the designer's longstanding commitment to equitable representation and inclusion.

Standout pieces within the exhibition include a gilet embellished with fluorescent sequins imitating a high-vis jacket, sequinned supermarket bags and Ashish's notable "IMMIGRANT" T-shirt alongside his "MORE GLITTER LESS TWITTER" designs -- designed in response to President Trump's 2016 election.

Elsewhere, the retrospective will explore Ashish's past references, including his childhood in Delhi, studies at Central Saint Martins and inspirations like Indian cinema, mid-century Hollywood costume and the complex relationship between Western and Indian aesthetics.

Alongside his inspirations, the exhibition delves into Ashish's continual exploration of gender, class and sexuality, celebrating LGBTQ+ communities and striving to encourage inclusion and acceptance. Ashish: Fall in Love and Be More Tender will also dissect the designer's use of both contemporary and traditional techniques, including Zardozi -- a South Asian embroidery method popularized in the 17th century.
