Ashanti finally reveals she’s pregnant, engaged to Nelly
Ashanti has confirmed that she and boyfriend Nelly are expecting — five months after reports of her pregnancy surfaced.
The 43-year-old Grammy Award winner shared the news Wednesday in a video on social media.
In the clip, while getting ready backstage for a performance, her mother, Tina Douglas, asks how much time she needs.
“Uh, I’m gonna need about nine months,” she answers, prompting her momager to feign astonishment.
The Glen Cove, N.Y., native also disclosed to Essence that she is engaged to Nelly.
“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope and anticipation,” she told the outlet. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
The new arrival will be the first baby for Ashanti and the third for Nelly.
The couple initially dated on and off from 2003 to 2013. After being a part for a decade, she rekindled her romance with the “Hot In Herre” rapper last year.
“Yeah, we cool again,” Nelly confirmed on the “Boss Moves with Rasheeda” podcast in September.
