Ariana Grande and James Corden Did a Live ‘Titanic’ Musical and It’s Everything

It’s no Carpool Karaoke, but it’ll do! Ariana Grande appeared with James Corden on the Late Late Show on Monday night for a live reinterpretation of the Titanic soundtrack, and their take on the 1997 love story is already a classic of its own.

“Tonight, we’ve got 13 songs, nine sets, one take, and zero pressure,” Corden said as he introduced the segment. He then joined Grande on a replica of the dock used to board the infamous ship as they assumed the roles of Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater.

The mini-musical opened with a rendition of Styx’s “Come Sail Away.” The two then proceeded to act out scenes from the movie while moving between versions of Hall & Oates’ “Rich Girl,” Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance,” ‘N Sync’s “Bye, Bye, Bye,” One Direction’s “Steal My Girl,” Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” and Pitbull and Kesha’s “Timber.”

One of the highlights was the recreation of the iconic “I’m flying, Jack!” scene on the boat, which they updated to include a sliver of the Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly” while they giggled. And, of course, because no Titanic musical would be complete without Céline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” the duo sang that one, too — and crushed it. (Grande even praised Corden’s harmonies.)

Grande recently revealed that she had filmed an episode of Carpool Karaoke — and even sustained some sort of hand injury while doing it. The bandage is visible in the Titanic production, but we’ll have to wait and see how exactly it happened when her episode airs.
