AREA Pre-Fall 2023 Spreads Its Wings With Butterfly-Inspired Collection

New York-based brand AREA looks to the butterfly for inspiration for its Pre-Fall 2023.

Designers Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Pansczczyk look to the creature's fluttering wings and eye-catching colors, reimagining its silhouette in the form of exaggerated lapels and intricately designed harnesses. Mimicking the butterfly's natural beauty, curve-hugging dresses arrive with swaths of bold colors, while tops mirror the insect's shape with an open halter bodice and oversized neckline.

Meanwhile, Japanese raw denim is transformed into embellished tuxedo jackets and shorts, adorned with strategically placed crystal gems. Vibrant hues of purple and pink evoke a psychedelic energy from the '70s, appearing on dizzying two-piece sets, flared green pants with bubblegum pink waistlines and bomber jackets outfitted with mini butterfly wings. The collection also pays homage to the butterfly's (ugly step) sister -- the moth as beige plaid suits are made more interesting with the help of bedazzled moth holes.
