APD says it was not consulted on movie about the West Mesa murders
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department says it was caught off guard when it learned about an upcoming movie about the West Mesa Murders. As KRQE News 13 reported on Monday, the movie Boneyard is inspired by and loosely follows the investigation into the 11 women found dead on Albuquerque’s West Mesa in 2009. The real West Mesa Murders remain unsolved.

APD says it was never contacted nor consulted by the film’s writers and producers and didn’t even become aware of it until the trailer dropped. They say some of the families of the victims were very upset when they found out. “A lot of these families were blindsided. I think for them, it would have been nice for them to at least have a notification that this was coming up. I think a heads-up could have been appreciated,” said Spokesperson Rebecca Atkins.
Boneyard, which starts 50 Cent and Mel Gibson, is expected to be released in July.
