Anya Taylor-Joy on Eloping and Being ‘Completely and Utterly in Love’ With Malcolm McRae

On April 1, 2022, Anya Taylor-Joy and her partner, Malcolm McRae, eloped in New Orleans with their two best friends as witnesses. She revealed their marriage publicly two years later, on April 2, 2024.
In our June/July issue, Taylor-Joy opened up more to ELLE about her and McRae’s decision to wed in secret, along with what her relationship with her husband is like now. She called him her person and marveled over the fact they found each other.
“I’m an incredibly sensitive, hyper-feeling person,” she began. “I did not realize that I could have more feelings, but I can. I feel so unbelievably lucky to be completely and utterly in love. I have found my person. I cannot believe that we get to do life together. And in talking about experiences where you get to grow, what an unbelievable thing to live your life with a mirror—and a mirror that causes you to become a better version of yourself.”
Of their secret ceremony, which preceded their bigger September 2023 wedding in Italy, Taylor-Joy said, “We’re just real romantics. We were born on the same day. And we wanted to make sure that our first experience was something that was completely for us. So we eloped in New Orleans with our two best friends and had the time of our lives. It was magical. But I’m lucky to say that the second experience—with all of our families—was so beyond beautiful, and I just feel very, very lucky.”
The couple now lives together in Los Angeles. McRae has attended red carpet events with Taylor-Joy from time to time, but generally, they have kept their love story almost entirely to themselves. Taylor-Joy’s comments lift the veil a bit during one of the biggest moments of her career: a starring role in Furiosa, the fifth installment of the Max Max franchise, in theaters May 24.
