Devil Wears Prada 2 truthers, we have some bad news for you. Anne Hathaway just opened up about a potential follow-up to 2006's hit film, and it doesn't seem like it will ever happen — but there might be some hope.
While promotin The Idea of You in a new cover interview with V Magazine, Anne Hathaway was asked about the possibility of slipping into Andy Sachs's shoes again for a second run of The Devil Wears Prada, and the actor was quick to say a sequel is "probably not" happening.
"We all love each other, and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we'd all be crazy not to," Hathaway admitted. "But there's a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now, with so much being digital, it would just be very different."

Fans of The Devil Wears Prada have been manifesting a sequel movie since Lauren Weisberger, the writer of the novel that inspired the film, released the original's follow-up, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, in 2014. Set almost ten years after the original story's event, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns tells the story of Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton, who have since exited Runway to start their own high-end bridal magazine, The Plunge.
Back in 2022, Hathaway already admitted to The View that the reason why she feels a Devil Wears Prada sequel wouldn't work was because "the movie was in a different era." Hathaway concluded her segment by admitting that the idea of a sequel is “tempting, but I don't think it's gonna happen.” Speaking to Entertainment Tonight that same year, the actor was even firmer, fully confirming that "there's not going to be a sequel."
She added: "It's not gonna happen. It's just like, we can't do it. It's not gonna happen. It exists. There are other films. There will be other films. We can just watch that one [The Devil Wears Prada] again."

Emily Blunt echoed Hathaway's feelings earlier this year. "Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble, and it's okay," Blunt said in an episode of Happy Sad Confused.
In 2018, Blunt also told People she "would be up" for a sequel "if everyone did it," but she admitted she "almost hoped it doesn't [happen] because I think sometimes when you sequel everything kind of dilutes how special the original is." Meanwhile, Stanley Tucci said he "would happily play Nigel in The Devil Wears Prada again" as recently as 2023.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 might be a no-go, but there is another revival in the books for Hathaway. The actor told V that Princess Diaries 3 is looking up. "We're in a good place," Hathaway said about the forthcoming movie, which was confirmed by Disney in 2022. “That's all I can say. There's nothing to announce yet. But we're in a good place.” We'll take what we can!
