Angelina Jolie has her work cut out for her when it comes to producing The Outsiders — all thanks to her daughter!

During the new Broadway musical's opening night at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City on Thursday, April 11, the Oscar-winning actress and filmmaker told PEOPLE that Vivienne, 15, runs a tight ship as an assistant on the production.

"She'll correct me," says Jolie, 48, of her daughter, who also attended the show’s premiere on Thursday. "She'll say, 'Didn't you read the memo? We have to do this. We have to go through this.' "

"She's been a really tough assistant," adds Jolie, who is a lead producer on the show, of co-producer Vivienne. "She takes it very, very seriously."

Asked who is her family’s “biggest theater head,” the actress immediately confirms it's "hands down" Vivienne, as The Outsiders score creator and book co-creator Justin Levine agrees, “Definitely Viv.”

The Outsiders is the new stage adaptation of S. E. Hinton's beloved 1967 coming-of-age novel. The story was previously adapted over 40 years ago by director Francis Ford Coppola and screenwriter Kathleen Rowell. C. Thomas HowellPatrick SwayzeMatt DillonRob LoweRalph MacchioTom Cruise and more starred in the 1983 film adaptation.

The new musical stars Brody Grant as Ponyboy Curtis, Brent Comer as Darrel Curtis, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop "Soda" Curtis, Sky Lakota-Lynch as Johnny Cade, Daryl Tofa as Keith "Two-Bit Mathews" and Joshua Boone as Dallas "Dally" Winston.

The story follows brothers Ponyboy, Darrel, Soda and their group of friends after the death of the Curtis brothers' parents in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during the 1960s.

Asked what advice she has given the cast about stage fright and staying level-headed, Jolie says, "I think there's something beautiful about when they're all doing this together. You see it as they go through the show, right? Everybody's so much about finding yourself and what matters and coming through and having doubts and struggles and who you are in the world."

"And so I think the piece itself is speaking to them as they do it every night," she continues. "And I think every night they end up as a family and every night they remember that's all that matters."

Adds Jolie, "And every night the entire audience walks out of that theater with that same feeling. So I think that's always going to ground them. And just what you heard of them singing in dancing through, they've responded to the material by learning the lesson of the story."

The actress and philanthropist — who is also a mother of six, including Vivienne's twin brother Knox — previously told PEOPLE that Vivienne "is a young artist who focuses her efforts on her support of others," and "has learned so much from Justin Levine and the whole creative team."

She also said that "it’s been a privilege to be a part of the process" of bringing The Outsiders to the Great White Way, adding, "I have so much respect for Broadway and all who work within."

"I’m excited for audiences to see it," Jolie continued. "I’ve been in the theatre watching as the first reactions came in, including the often very emotional reaction from young people. It’s very moving."
