"I said, ‘No, no. She’s not gonna be naked, no. Come on.’”

Andy Garcia is baring all in his recollections of The Godfather Part III.

In an appearance on The Pete and Sebastian Show Tuesday, the Ocean’s Eleven star talked about shooting Francis Ford Coppola’s threequel, where he played Vincent Mancini, the illegitimate son of Sonny Corleone (James Caan). In a pivotal scene, Vincent fends off would-be assassins who briefly hold love interest, journalist Grace Hamilton (Bridget Fonda), hostage in his apartment.

Garcia made a recommendation, which changed a key costuming decision in the sequence. “Bridget Fonda was extraordinary to work with, and that’s my coat she’s wearing,” he said. “That's my coat. And initially, you know, they wanted her to be, you know, naked. And she was very nervous. And I said, ‘No, no. She’s not gonna be naked, no. Come on.’”

A rep for Fonda did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

Garcia continued, “I said to [costume designer] Milena Canonero, I said, ‘Milena, why doesn’t she just wear my leather coat. It's on the bed, it's on the floor. Let her come out in my coat.’ And she went, ‘Oh, beautiful. Yeah, let's do that.’ And you know, they taped it so I wouldn't open up and stuff like that.”

Fonda has been retired from screen acting since her 2002 appearances in the TV series Snow Queen and The Chris Isaak Show. Garcia, on the other hand, has appeared in 15 projects in the 2020s alone.

In the same interview, Garcia also recalled accidentally injuring a stunt performer in the same sequence. “I figure I'll grab him by the hair and I have to ask the stunt man, ‘Hey, listen, are you okay if I grab you by the hair?’” he remembered. “And he would go like, ‘Yeah, man. Grab me by the hair, you know.’ It was like this guy was all in. And then you go through the scene it’s kind of blocked because, you know, this stuff is dangerous.”

“I grab him and he says something and I kind of give him a whack, right? I got a little bit too close and I nipped the back of his head,” Garcia continued. “So we did one take. Then after they said cut, I went, ‘Hey, man, you alright? I'm sorry.’ And he goes, ‘No, man, that was wild!’ He was totally into it. I said, ‘Okay, we don’t need to do that again.’ But those kinds of things, you know, they happen sometimes, you know, even though no matter how careful you are, it was very well organized and protected. But what I did was clip him a little bit."
