American Idol continued its search for the next singing sensation with another night of performances critiqued by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

Tonight was the Judges' Song Contest when Luke, Katy, and Lionel each selected a song anonymously for the Top 8 to perform -- and Katy had the most songs chosen by the artists to perform, earning bragging rights for getting it right!

The broadcast also featured a very special musical tribute to beloved Idol 2005 alum Mandisa, who died on April 18. Idol alums Colton Dixon, Melinda Doolittle and Danny Gokey returned to perform “Shackles” by Mary Mary as a tribute to their friend.

Then America voted and determined the Top 6, leaving the judges to save the artist they wanted to see in the Top 7.

Here's how the night went down:

Will Moseley

Song: “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash (Lionel)

Lionel said: “First of all, the crowd told you exactly what was happening. What I like about making the right decision is you killed it. It was your song. You pumped the crowd, and you did the whirlybird. It was fantastic.”

Kaibrienne

Song: “traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo (Katy)

Katy said: “It was amazing. It was heartfelt. You’re such a superstar and I’m going to wear that hair next week.”

Mckenna Faith Brienholt

Song: “Everywhere I Go” by Lisssie (Katy)

Katy said: “I chose that song because she is like the artist you will become.”

Luke said: “That was amazing. Your ability to capture and bring the room into you by the subtleties of your voice is mature stuff. It’s a real moment in the room to see how your voice pulls the air out of it.”

Jack Blocker

Song: “Always on My Mind” by Willie Nelson (Katy)

Katy said: “I am crying because it is so emotional. I feel like you were fully realized. When I first met you, I was conflicted. You keep singing like that and you will surprise everyone on this contest.”

Abi Carter

Song: “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence (Luke)

Luke said: “When I chose that I didn’t really know I created a monster. Really, way to take it to another level. From the time of the first note to your approach, we knew it was game on and you were serious.”

Julia Gagnon

Song: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz (Luke)

Luke said: “There is no song too big for you. There is no song you can’t sing. We have heard that song done very classic. We’ve done the Hawaiian version. You had all these different inspirations. You captured everything you want to be.”

Triston Harper

Song: “Sand in My Boots” by Morgan Wallen (Lionel)

Lionel said: “Let me tell you the real deal. You have grown up in front of us, you’re a world-class storyteller, but God is the main reason more than anything.”

Emmy Russell

Song: “Coal Miner’s Daughter” by Loretta Lynn (Katy)

Katy said: “I chose this song not because you are Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter, but because you are Emmy Russell and you can do anything.”

Going home was Kaibrienne.
