AEW Dynamite Results – May 1, 2024

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan from Jacksonville regarding running tonight’s episode remotely. The Young Bucks disrupt the feed and make it clear they can’t be fired for what they did last week due to their iron-clad contracts. They say they are in charge of the show now and run an Elite-centric opening video for tonight’s show.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana come to the ring. Swerve says he had three matches last week, and that’s the kind of champion he promised he was going to be, and that’s what they deserve. Swerve says what AEW doesn’t need are selfish, power-hungry EVPs who think they can throw their weight around. Strickland reiterates that what The Elite did last week was a bitch move.

Swerve says he doesn’t know who his opponent is at Double or Nothing, but they can just come out and introduce themselves right now. The Young Bucks pop up on the Tron and say the success of the championship has gotten to Swerve’s head, and he needs to learn humility. They introduce his opponent for Double or Nothing… Christian Cage!

Christian Cage to face Swerve Strickland at Double or Nothing for the AEW Championship

Cage comes out with Killswitch, Nick Wayne, and Mama Wayne, and Cage enters the ring. Cage teases that he’s going to speak but attacks Strickland instead. Swerve fights back but is outnumbered and eats a Killswitch from Cage onto his title. Nick Wayne hits Wayne’s World on Prince Nana for good measure. Cage grabs the microphone and says he hasn’t forgotten about Swerve breaking into Nick Wayne’s gym and leaving him in a pool of his own blood.

Cage says he hasn’t forgotten that they were a tag team at All In once, and Swerve lost it for them and embarrassed him. Christian says he’s going to make Swerve have the shortest reign in AEW history as his revenge. Cage says Swerve’s daughter will never want to know him after the pay-per-view, but he can be a father she’ll be proud of. Cage says the pain for Swerve has just begun.

Killswitch proceeds to grab one of Swerve’s braids and rip it out of his head as Cage poses with the AEW Championship.

The Cope Open is next, and a member of House of Black will answer for the TNT Championship. Copeland will face Buddy Matthews.

Adam Copeland defeated Buddy Matthews to retain the AEW TNT Championship

  • Adam Copeland hit Buddy Matthews with the spear to score the pinfall victory.

The Rated R Superstar is feeling the effects of Malakai Blacks mist on AEW Dynamite

After the match, Copeland continues to attack Matthews and sets him up for a Conchairto. As Copeland goes to hit the move, the lights go out. When they come back on, Malakai Black is in the ring next to Copeland, and he tells him to do it. Copeland raises the chair above his head and then turns to hit Black, and the lights go out again. When they come back on, Copeland is left alone in the ring.

Samoa Joe defeated Isiah Kassidy

  • Samoa Joe hits Isiah Kassidy with a Muscle Buster to score the pinfall victory.

A video package plays for Skye Blue. Blue challenges Willow Nightingale to a match later tonight on AEW Rampage for the TBS Championship.

Orange Cassidy comes to the ring to speak. Cassidy says he hates this and thought after the parking lot fight on Saturday that he, Trent Beretta, and Chuck Taylor would all come back together as Best Friends, but that’s not going to happen. Cassidy says he’s been told that after what took place in the parking lot brawl, Taylor will never wrestle again.

Orange goes to threaten Trent Beretta, but he’s interrupted by him instead. Cassidy tries to attack him on the stage but is held back by security and Kris Statlander. Don Callis comes out and whispers in Cassidy’s ear and walks to the back with him as the crowd boos loudly. Beretta mocks the crowd by giving everyone a thumbs up.

The Elite are looking for Kenny Omega

Matthew and Nicholas Jackson are backstage with Renee Paquette. The Young Bucks say they don’t really have time to talk right now and are trying to find Kenny Omega. Paquette says she hasn’t seen him. The Bucks introduce Jack Perry and leave. Perry says he meant what he said last week and only wants the best for AEW. Jack says Tony made him the Scapegoat, and it hurt at the time, but he accepted it because it was a sacrifice that someone had to make, but we all have to sacrifice. Perry says AEW is heading into a new era under the direction of The Elite.

Chris Jericho defeated Katsuyori Shibata in an FTW Rules match to retain the FTW Championship

  • Thanks to an assist from Big Bill, who put Katsuyori Shibata through a table, Chris Jericho crawls on top of Shibata to get the pinfall win.

Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander, and Stokely Hathaway are backstage. Statlander apologizes for what happened last week and tries to explain herself. Nightingale says she accepts Skye Blue’s challenge for Rampage later on tonight. The Young Bucks interrupt via text message to announce that Statlander and Hathaway are banned from ringside for her title match.

Claudio Castagnoli defeated Biran Cage

  • Claudio Castagnoli locks Brian Cage in the Sharpshooter to win the match via submission.

Another match is set for Rampage on AEW Dynamite

Rocky Romero is backstage. Romero says he sides with no one in the feud with Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy. Romero says he’s told them all he’s done with it, and his new focus is to become a champion in All Elite Wrestling. Rocky challenges Kyle O’Reilly to a match later tonight on Rampage.

Serena Deeb defeated Mariah May (w/ Toni Storm and Luther)

  • Serena Deeb locks Mariah May in the Serenity Lock, and Toni Storm throws in the towel for May to save her from injury.

It’s announced that Deeb will face Storm at Double or Nothing for the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Adam Copeland is backstage. Copeland insists he’s okay. Kyle O’Reilly comes in and tells Copeland if he ever needs backup against House of Black, he’ll be watching. Copeland says he appreciates that and wishes him luck against Rocky Romero later tonight on Rampage.

Kenny Omega returns to AEW

Justin Roberts introduces Kenny Omega and brings him to the ring. The Cleaner is wearing a suit. Omega says he’s never been good at this sort of stuff, talking about injuries and sickness. Omega says a few months back, he was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Kenny says doctors informed him he was 24 hours away from dying.

Omega runs down how serious the injury he’s suffering from to a crowd in stunned silence. Omega says he had to stop watching because he was scared and thought that maybe he would have to come out here and announce his retirement. Kenny says he watched Dynasty and started shaking all over again. Omega says the reason he was shaking was because he was going through withdrawals.

Kenny says he made a promise to himself and a promise to all of his fans, this isn’t over until he exhausts every option. Omega says if there’s even a one percent change, we aren’t done with Omega yet. Omega calls out Matthew and Nicholas Jackson for embarrassing themselves. Kenny says he might be fired from The Elite, but they can’t fire him as an EVP.

Kenny says until he’s told differently, part of the power in this company belongs to the Best Bout Machine. This brings out Kazuchika Okada, and the two go face-to-face in the ring. Omega asks Okada to give him a few months, and the two of them will settle things in an AEW ring. Okada says he’s sorry, but he’s the Best Bout Machine now.

Jack Perry attacks Kenny Omega

Jack Perry attacks Omega from behind, but Omega manages to fight him off. Omega hits Perry with a Dragon Suplex and attempts a V-Trigger, but Okada trips him up, and Perry hits him with a steel chair in the stomach. The Young Bucks come out and pretend to condemn what Okada and Perry did but hit Omega with an EVP Trigger. FTR comes out to chase off The Elite as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
