It used to be a lot easier to buy a lawn mower — but that’s only because the choices were limited in a market dominated by gas-powered walk-behinds. You’ll still find plenty of those at home centers and lawn care equipment dealers, but they’re joined by a fleet of other options, from self-propelled mowers that run on batteries to robotic lawn mowers that do the work for you.

The experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute have been testing lawn mowers and tractors from the beginning. (We’ve been around for more than a century!)
