The annual Met Gala celebrates one of the biggest nights in fashion, but some celebrities aren't so keen on the event.

This year, the 2024 Met Gala is honoring the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute exhibition, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," with a dress code of "The Garden of Time," per Vogue.

Amid all the glitz and glamour, only one person is on the record as being uninvited from the Met Gala, but celebrities are rumored to be banned for criticism or have decided to openly boycott the event.

Here’s a list of people who went to the Met Gala and don't anticipate returning.

Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, has only officially admitted to banning one person from the Met Gala and that's former President Donald Trump.

On a 2017 episode of “The Late Late Show with James Cordon,” host James Cordon asked Wintour who she "would never invite back" to the Met Gala, to which she answered, "Donald Trump."

Former One Direction member Zayn Malik spoke about his experience in GQ Magazine back in 2018. Malik had previously attended the charity event in 2016.

“Now, it’s not something I would go to.” Malik told GQ. “I’d rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet ... To do the self-indulgent ‘Look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”

In a 2016 interview with Howard Stern, comedian Amy Schumer said that it was like “punishment” to go to the Met Gala.

“It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce," she said. “I have no interest in fashion.”

Fellow comedian Tina Fey shared Schumer’s sentiment in a 2010 interview with talk show host David Letterman, describing the gala as a “jerk parade.”

“I went and I dragged my husband along with me too, which I’m still in trouble for,” she said.

“Everyone is there, everyone. If you had a million arms, all the people you would want to punch are there,” she continued. “Clearly I will never go again.”

Demi Lovato spoke with Billboard in 2018, detailing her experience. She described it as “terrible” and “cliquey,” and said that one celebrity was specifically miserable to be around.

“I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink,” said Lovato, who has struggled with addiction in the past.

“I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting. And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala.”

While it might not be an indictment of his experience attending the party, the “Project Runway” host is famously banned from the Met Gala.

In a 2016 interview with E!, he confirmed that he was disinvited from the event. "It's a very matter-of-fact story," he said.

“I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion,” he continued. "And I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards — two big hulking men — from a fashion show.”

He continued to say that since then, he has had an “open war” with Anna Wintour.

Lili Reinhart

“Riverdale” actor Lili Reinhart attended the 2022 Met Gala, but has since said she doubts she’ll be invited back following her remarks on Kim Kardashian’s attire choice that same year.

In May 2022, Kardashian notably said she rapidly lost weight to fit into the famous dress Marilyn Monroe wore to perform for former President John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday.

Days after the event, Reinhart called Kardashian out on her Instagram story, according to E! News.

“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are ... because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month ... all to fit in a f--king dress? So wrong. So f----d on 100s of levels.

“To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is other-worldly disgusting.”

Reinhart added, per the outlet, “Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies. I am not generally an angry person but I swear to God, the toxicity of this industry sometimes really gets to me.”

In a later interview with W Magazine in October 2022, Reinhart recalled the evening of the Met Gala earlier that year, admitting that she didn't expect another invite back.

“Was fun, but after going again this year, I don’t think I’ll be invited back ... I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress,” she said at the time.
