5 things to do this weekend

Apr. 10—1. Second Sunday Cinema will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex, 212 W. Seventh St. in Joplin. Great Wonders Productions will host screenings of films selected by their Uplift Film Fest jury and will invite filmmakers for live interviews and question-and-answer sessions about their films. A portion of the box office sales will go to filmmakers, supporting filmmaking and cinematic storytelling in the Four-State Area. Purchase tickets at 2ndsundaycinema.com; the cost is $10. Advance tickets are recommended.

2. "Annie Jr." will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, at Stained Glass Theater Joplin, 2010 Annie Baxter Ave. The play is based on the comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning musical. Doors open at 45 minutes before showtime. Tickets can be purchased online at beta.purplepass.com/anniejr. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 4-14; children ages 3 and younger are admitted for free.

3. "Celebrating Elvis Presley's Recordings from Sun Studios with Hot Club of Cowtown & Tyler Hilton" will be performed from 7-10 p.m. Saturday at the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex, 212 W. Seventh St. According to the Connect2Culture, four artists pay homage to Presley's works, including actor and singer/songwriter Tyler Hilton and the trio Hot Club of Cowtown. This performance is part of Connect2Culture's Cornell Series 2023 — 2024. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at connect2culture.org, 417-501-5550, or at the Connect2Culture box office inside the Cornell Complex from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Tickets are $35-$40.

4. Prairie State Park will present a program on the toads and frogs of Missouri from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center at the park, at 128 NW 150th Lane, north of Mindenmines. This event is free and is designed for children 5 and older. Class size is limited to 35, and registration is required. To register, call the park at 417-843-6711.

5. The Wildcat Glades Nature Group will present a foraging hike from 3-5 p.m. Saturday on the trails in Wildcat Park. The event is for those ages 13 and older. The cost is $20 to attend. Kelly Hock, a certified foraging instructor, will lead the hike through the trails at Wildcat Park. Attendees will learn about the wonders of wild edibles along the trails system, the ethics of foraging and how to identify edible plants.
