1. Michelle Wolf and #Nerdprom
Our day opened with the controversy surrounding Wolf’s monologue at Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, and it’s closing with it too. In case you missed it, some attendees felt that the Daily Show comedian’s roast of Sarah Sanders crossed the line — especially a joke that focused on the press secretary’s appearance. Today, the White House Correspondents’ Association’s president, Margaret Talev, sent a statement to members saying that she regretted the way Wolf handled the monologue. Chrissy Teigen weighed in with some choice words for those demanding that Wolf apologize, joining Kathy Griffin, Jimmy Kimmel, and other entertainers voicing support. Then Dennis Miller, of Saturday Night Live fame, promised to roast Wolf herself — but said he needed time to think up his jokes, which, as you can imagine, delighted the internet. Washington, D.C., native Amber Phillips tells us that American Airlines called the police on her for flying while “fat and black,” after touching arms with her white seat mate during a flight on Thursday. Sure, Chicago is a city, but it’s also the name of Kim and Kanye’s third child. Today, Kardashian West revealed to Ellen DeGeneres the secret meaning behind the moniker. Not surprisingly, it has everything to do with Kanye — the Windy City is his hometown. “That is a place that made him, and a place that he remembers his family from,” Kardashian shared.
